4. SMS/Text Messaging

Opt-In: By providing your phone number and agreeing to receive SMS messages, you consent to receive text messages from Portable. These messages may include:

Message Frequency: Message frequency varies based on your account activity. Authentication codes are sent only when you request them. Invitation messages are sent only when another user invites you.

Costs: Message and data rates may apply. Check with your mobile carrier for details about your plan.

Opt-Out: You can opt out of SMS messages at any time by replying STOP to any message. You may also disable SMS authentication in your account settings. After opting out, you will receive a confirmation message and no further SMS messages unless you opt back in.

Carriers: Supported carriers include AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, Sprint, and most major US carriers. Carrier participation may vary.

5. Third-Party Authentication (Google Sign-In)

Portable offers the option to sign in using your Google account. When you choose to sign in with Google, we receive limited information from Google to create and authenticate your account.

What We Receive from Google

When you sign in with Google, we only request access to:

Basic profile information: Your name and profile picture
Email address: Used as your account identifier

We do not request access to your contacts, calendar, files, or any other Google services during sign-in. We only use this information to create your Portable account and authenticate you on future visits.

To create and maintain your Portable account
To authenticate you when you sign in
To display your name and profile picture within the app
To send important account-related communications to your email

Optional Google Service Integrations

Separately from sign-in, Portable offers optional integrations with Google services like Calendar, Gmail, Drive, and Classroom. These integrations require additional permissions that you must explicitly grant. If you choose to connect these services, the specific permissions and data access will be clearly displayed before you authorize. You can disconnect these integrations at any time in your account settings.

Revoking Access

You can revoke Portable's access to your Google account at any time through your Google Account settings. Revoking access will not delete your Portable account, but you will need to use another sign-in method (email or phone) to access your account.

6. Information Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We may share your information in the following circumstances:

With your consent: When you explicitly agree to share information
With team members: Information shared within teams you join
Service providers: Third parties that help us operate our Service (e.g., hosting, analytics, SMS delivery)

8. Chat Data, Memory, and Analytics

Data Isolation

Your chats and messages are protected by row-level security at the database layer. Only participants in a conversation can access its contents through normal platform use.

Memory Ownership

The memories your experts form about you belong to you. You can view, edit, and delete any memory at any time through your account settings.

Platform Analytics

We analyze aggregate usage patterns to improve our Service, including topic trends, feature adoption, and engagement metrics. Platform administrators may access individual user activity data for support, safety, and analytics purposes. Such access is restricted to authorized personnel and logged for accountability.

What We Don't Do

We do not build tools to browse user conversations for surveillance purposes
We do not sell your data to third parties
We do not train AI models on your conversations

AI Provider Processing

When you chat with an expert, your messages are processed by our AI providers (currently Anthropic and OpenAI) to generate responses. These providers operate under their own privacy policies and data processing agreements. We use API configurations that disable training on your data.

9. Data Retention

We retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you services. We may retain certain information as required by law or for legitimate business purposes after you close your account.

Portable offers Family Accounts that allow parents and guardians to create supervised accounts for children under 13. These accounts include parental oversight, content guardrails, and the ability for guardians to view, manage, and delete their child's data at any time.

For children under 13, we require that a parent or guardian create and manage the account. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without verifiable parental consent through our Family Account system.
